Our company is the representative of Kiriacoulis, as we are for several other leading charter companies such a Vernicos Yachts, Sunsail/Stardust, and VPM Yachting.
There are mainly two different ways of operating a charter company: They can have sole management of the yachts, or base their business on contacting private owners on the open market. The large companies - among them all our partners - have chosen the first solution. This gives much better control over all sides of the operation, including the crucial issue of maintenance!
This requires a huge capital investment, and because of this, several such companies are listed on various stock exchanges. This is true also for Kiriacoulis, which is valued at approximately €150 million. But to decrease the necessary investment for each yacht (and thus be able to run more yachts) it is common to team up with a private investor. This usually follows one of these two models:
1)
As the investor, you finance the full value of the yacht, after which you receive
a guaranteed annual income. With us, this is up to 12% of the
investment - about twice of what most are able to get from their bank. After
the agreed contract term, usually 5 seasons, the yacht can be taken out of management.
You are then free to do what you want with it: Keep it as your private yacht,
sell it, trade it for a new (and larger?) model - or continue chartering it
and receiving an annual income.
2)
As the investor, you finance approximately 50% of the yacht's value.
The rest is financed through the income received from chartering, and this income
is also guaranteed. Yes, you literally get the yacht for half the price!
We even have financing options down to a 30% investment. After five seasons
the yacht can be taken out of management to be used for any purpose you have
planned for it.
In both cases, all the responsibility for
marketing, operating, and maintaining the yacht lies with the charter company.
You, the investor, have no costs whatsoever. But importantly, you have
a mortgage on the full value of the yacht. If, by any chance, the charter company
should come into financial difficulties or even bankruptcy, neither they nor
their creditors can make any claims on your yacht. It remains yours regardless.
A large percentage of the world's fleet of charter yachts, many thousand in the number, has been financed this way. It has proved as beneficial to the investors as to the charter companies.
The German yacht producer Bavaria has in recent years acquired a position as one of the most successful yacht builders in Europe. They have been able to combine excellent quality and good sailing performance with great value. All their yachts are quality approved by the German Lloyds Company, and classified as category A yachts according to the European standards - meaning they are all considered among the safest ocean-going designs. Bavaria offers a sizeable range of yachts, from 31 to 51 feet, both traditional aft cabin yachts and the newer centre cockpit designs. Kiriacoulis is one of Bavaria's General agents, and at the same time among its largest buyers. However, there are other alternatives. Why own something if you can't use it? Well, that is not how this works! With Kiriacoulis you can use your yacht up to a guaranteed six weeks per year, or in fact at any time it is not booked for a charter. That is considerably more than most traditional yacht owners use theirs. But you are not limited to the use of your own yacht: You can freely use a similar yacht from any of the numerous Kiriacoulis' bases in the Med and the Caribbean!
